Cierra Johnson
Born and raised in Indianapolis, and a proud Eastside resident, Cierra Johnson’s art focuses on identity and the ethereal nature of human existence. A mixed-media artist and designer, she believes art allows people to see themselves and others in a new light, “I am inspired by my community. I try to make work that encourages and reflects the communities that I am a part of.”
She was featured in Meet the Artist XXXII and LOCALIZED: Garfield Park Artists Celebrate Indy’s Bicentennial in 2020 and had her first solo show, “Gathering Me’s” at the Storefront Theater of Indianapolis in 2021. She is a CICF grant recipient and 2021 On-Ramp Fellowship Recipient. Her work has been displayed at the Center for Black Literature & Culture and Newfields in 2022.
Cierra is an instructor at Arts for Lawrence and currently teaches with ArtMix where she provides art activities with a therapeutic benefit. She is the 2023 Creative Placemaking Fellow at the Harrison Center for the Arts.
