April First Friday: Poet’s Tree

Underneath the poet tree

Come and rest awhile with me,

And watch the way the word-web weaves

Between the shady story leaves.

The branches of the poet tree

Reach from the mountains to the sea.

So Come and dream, or come and climb—

Just don’t get hit by falling rhymes.

-Shel Silverstein

April is National Poetry Month, and the ArtMix Gallery is taking inspiration from Shel Silverstein’s poem “POET’S TREE,” which is the name of our exhibit. With Spring in the air, this exhibit melds together poetry and nature. Our students have been inspired by the changing of the seasons and created a cherry blossom branch, which you can read more about here.

Join us on April 7, 6 – 9 pm for this new exhibit. We will also have a free poetry activity in our studio from 7 – 8:30.

This month we will have Leah Keel as our featured artist. Leah’s style is quite unique, she creates face-like sculptures with abstract designs in blue and grey tones. We have featured Leah’s creations in the past, and they are always popular with our guests.

Along with being National Poetry Month, April is Autism Awareness month, and we will have pieces from the Hands in Autism exhibit. We will also have featured pieces from Sylvia and Sean Grey, a mother-son team. Sylvia and Sean, an artist with Autism, are exhibiting later this month at Inspire Studio Gallery in Carmel. They have graciously decided to donate 20% of all their earnings for this show to ArtMix. The show opens Saturday, April 8, 5-9 pm. You won’t want to miss it!
